Don’t Negate the Power of a Team

Don’t Negate the Power of a Team

Donald Trump on ACN Stage

From the Mind of Donald J. Trump

Most people know I love golf — I love playing golf, I love watching golf and I love building some of the world’s most beautiful golf courses. But golf is probably one of the only things I do in which I’mnot relying on a team effort to be successful. It’s just me against the greens. It’s one of the only exceptions to the belief that everything is better with teamwork.

As an entrepreneur, I have the privilege of being able to make my own decisions. That being said, my successes would not have been possible without a fantastic team of people beside me. There is so much power in a team — with a team mentality we can accomplish so much more than we ever could on our own. Not to mention, we get the benefit of using others’ skills, talents and brains. I’ve never been shy about my own personal strengths, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also recognize my own weaknesses. When we surround ourselves with a team, each member’s strengths shine and the weaknesses become so much less apparent and important.

The saying two heads are better than one is undeniably true in the business world. A team of determined leaders is one of the most powerful things. But remember, when you commit to being part of a team — whether at ACN or in other aspects of your life — you are committing to put the needs of the group above the needs of yourself no matter what happens. You are committing toexpressing your own strengths and exposing your own weaknesses, and most importantly, you are committing to being the type of person whose actions speak louder than any words. And realize when you do, the rewards can be twice as nice.

I’ve been around the business block a few times and very few environments foster teamwork quite like ACN. Sure many companies talk a big game but when the doors are closed and no one is looking, it’s not unheard of for people to stab each other in the back to get ahead. The corporate world can be vicious. ACN’s philosophy is that you can’t possibly be successful without also helping your team be successful. It’s a refreshing concept and one more companies should adopt.
